A New Chapter for Common Ground Church
It is with deep gratitude and awe at the faithfulness of Christ, we need to share with our city an extraordinary moment in the life of Common Ground Church—a story of faith, legacy, and God’s abundant provision. After 21 years of being a mobile church, (12 years at the Old Silk Mill) we are moving into a permanent home, one that comes with a rich history and a remarkable act of generosity.
Just a few months ago, we were approached by the elders of First Christian Church on Washington Ave in downtown Fredericksburg, a congregation that has loved our city for over 100 years. However, before closing their doors, they had one more act of love to give. A profound one. After prayerfully seeking God on what to do with their legacy and historic church building, they have entrusted Common Ground Church with the deed to their facility, giving us over 20,000 square-feet of classrooms, sanctuary space, and endless potential for gracious hospitality and ongoing ministry. In a spirit of kingdom generosity, First Christian offered this building to Common Ground completely free of charge, believing in our mission to glorify God, emulate Christ and serve our beautiful city. You read that correctly. Like God’s grace, to you and me, totally free of charge.
However, the story doesn’t stop there. In turn, we will be giving The Common Ground Meeting House to First International Christian Church, a radiant Filipino congregation that has faithfully worshiped in Fredericksburg for 23 years ensuring this space remains a place where faith, hope, and love continues to thrive.
This incredible chapter reminds us of Jesus’ words: “Unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it cannot bear fruit.” From one church’s legacy comes new life for many and hope for all who need it most.
As we prepare to move into this space in February 2025, we invite you to join us in prayer, celebration, and service. We are not a perfect church or people. We’re a bit messy. We have so many questions and yet, we believe that God has revealed himself in Christ and that our hearts, like buildings, can find new life. God has been faithful in every step of this journey, and we cannot wait to see how He will use this new home for his glory and honor. If you’d like to join us at the Silk Mill for any of our final services, you can find out more information on our website.
