Common Ground,

I am so proud of what is in these pages that you hold in your hands. It’s the story of resilience in a year of death and decay. It’s the stories of redemption in a year of bondage and brokenness. As a church you have risen out of this past year with a greater dependency on God and a greater awareness of the suffering of the world. Lent is the season in the Christian calendar that leads right up to Easter. It begins on Ash Wednesday as we put the dust of our hosannas on our head and remember to number our days. The purpose of Lent is not self-punishment but voluntary, joyful, and willing surrender to the ways of Christ and dependency on him and him alone. Lent is about rekindling the desire for a God who so desires us. Over the past year we have known the depths of sadness and despair and in the stories you read, you will be able to know that you are not alone on this journey of faith. Christ our brother as well as each member of Common Ground Church is with you and for you as you walk the road toward the cross. We are on a communal pilgrimage that will result around the table of Christ in the New Jerusalem. We are not there yet and boy do we know it with all the pain and suffering around us. Yet there is joy in the journey. There is bread and wine for the journey. So Take This Cup, drink it to the dregs and know that in the death of Christ, we find our life.

Buen Camino (Good Road),

Gregg
